I ignored the warm sun yesterday and made one of my grandmother’s hearty recipes. Her recipes are the old school Southern recipes that generally require Cream of mushroom soup and a lot of calories, but her beef stroganoff is one of my favorites. Mr. F and I were discussing how hard it is to find time to cook yummy meals, and I remembered that a solution is on the way. The New York Butcher Shop will hopefully be opening the week before Thanksgiving– the week after at the latest. Someone passed a brochure to me; the selections look fabulous. Aside from the cuts of beef, pork, and poultry they offer a variety of prepared items. Southwest chicken, Greek Chicken, Stuffed Pork Chops, SMOKED SALMON, to name a few. They will also have cuts of veal and lamb. I have never cooked lamb, but my boss prepares a few tasty lamb dishes. I just try not to think of cute fluffy animals.
They will also have a selection of gourmet wines. I have to say, in anticipation of Thanksgiving or in recovery of Thanksgiving– wine always helps me make it through.
