Recently I found some pictures on Flickr that upset me a little. Someone passing through town took a bunch of pictures of downtown Florence and basically said “You would never want to visit here.” I drive through downtown every day, and I can see how a casual visitor would only see the bad. I, however, see the promise and the potential. I see the changes that are being made to make downtown a more inviting place to be.
Tomorrow night the Florence Downtown Development Corporation invites you to celebrate the beginning of the Art Trail in Downtown Florence. There will be a showing of local artistic talent, fascinating people, and light refreshments from 5:30-8:00 p.m. It will be held in the old Kimbrell’s Furniture Building at 135 South Dargan Street.
You can drop by on your way home from work. Every person that goes to these functions is working to make Florence better. Be seen, be heard, make a difference. A casual word about what you want to see may be heard by the right person and may initiate change. You won’t know if you don’t even show up.
You may even meet me there. Or not. I’ll be the one with red hair and freckles. Or is it purple hair and red freckles? I never can remember.
