I am going to tell a tale on Tomlinsons, because it is almost Christmas and this is a tale that needs to be told. As you know, I was there shopping recently. I always like to look at the jewelry section and dream that I may one day be gifted with a sparkling treat. On this particular day, I noticed that an elderly man was having an intense conversation with the employee behind the jewelery counter. It was so intense that I smiled to myself– surely this older gent was buying a diamond for his wife. Both men had their heads down, studiously discussing something. The employee was paying his full attention to the man, no detail was being overlooked. As I moved closer, I heard the employee discussing fit and size. The man was clearly deeply concerned about these issues and he was being given the attention you would expect for a large purchase. Except… as I moved closer I noticed the elderly man was holding a three pack of white cotton t-shirts. I eavesdropped a little more and heard him talking about these t-shirts and how they are so expensive you need to be sure you have the right fit. The man behind the counter was listening– and I mean truly listening– to the elderly man and responding to each and every one of his questions. I truly believed the older man was purchasing a diamond, and I realized that to him it may as well have been a diamond.
That, my friends, is not just good service, but a true example of paying it forward.
I hope you see the same in your travels around town.

WOW! I read this post with tears in my eyes. My great grandfather started Tomlinsons many, many years ago and what you just wrote about sums up what he wanted Tomlinsons to be about. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I am so proud of my great grandfather and all that he did, and I am so thankful that Tomlinsons is still around today for my kids to see. My dad, great uncle and brother are still working there today. This is truly a family business! Thank you!
Thank you so much. It’s said a lot, but we really do try to treat people like we would want to be treated ourselves. We also rely on word of mouth advertising from people like you (we keep our prices low by not advertising except for three months a year in She Magazine) so this really means a lot.
I don’t know who was helping this man, but I hope that he left being satisfied. Thanks again for posting about this – I hope that you and everyone reading this has a great day and a Merry Christmas.

Well Done, Ms. Flossip:
Thank goodness this is not an exception to the norm. I often experience this ‘treated like family’ attitude around Florence.
It’s this atmosphere that will keep us strong through these trying economic times.
I hope you enjoy the holidays.
Cheers,
Scott
What a wonderful reminder to all of us at this busy time of year! I am not originally from Florence and honestly have never been to Tomlinsons. I didn’t really know much about it until I started reading the Flossip and another local blog, but after this post I am going to make sure to stop by and get at least one Christmas present from there (I still have several to go). Thanks!
Tomlinson’s should really send you some freebies! I shopped there for the first time in years this Christmas and got some great gifts…thanks for the tips:)
