Dispelling a rumor…

in Things I hear on the street

A while back we heard that a Publix was coming to Florence. I have a definitive email from Publix that says (sadly) this is not the case.

Sniff.

In response to your email requesting a Publix in Florence South Carolina we sincerely thank you for your inquiry and comments. We always appreciate hearing from our customers especially when they are requesting that Publix locate a store in their community. We continuously monitor the markets for opportunities to better serve our customers. Unfortunately we do not currently have any plans to build a store in your area.

Thank you again for your email. It is always a pleasure to hear from our customers.

Remember to tell them you read about it on theflossip.com!! Thanks for reading!

I WISH, WISH, WISH we had a Publix here. They have great prices (without having to have a special card) and have great store-brand items too! Maybe one day….

Sadness. Publix rocks! Only place I go if I can’t get stuff from farmers. Luckily, we have them in Atlanta (had to rub it in!)

This makes me very, very sad.

I wish we had a Whole Foods.

I like Publix and wish we had it here. Oh well, another great thing about Charleston ;) .

That is too bad. I love shopping at Publix, and when they have sales they have some decent prices too.

Maybe we can get the Fresh Market to come???

I too am sad! I LOVE Publix and wish we had one here–if you ever get a chance get a sub from them–they are AWESOME!

8 Andrew Cannon July 30, 2009 at 3:57 pm

I agree about the subs…they are some of the best available. I would go there for lunch sometimes in Columbia.

Hey!?! We got TWO Super-Walmarts and an Aldi’s. Isn’t that enough? Think about it. All these companies laying off would scare any new anything from opening up.

I 2nd the motion for a Whole Foods… or Trader Joe’s!

I wish it was true but oh well. We can’t have everything, then we’d have the big city troubles of Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, etc. But from what I’ve heard, the Super Wal-Marts are so dominate that they kill the other grocery stores in every market they’re in so I’m guessing that grocery stores like Publix are reluctant to locate in relatively small areas like ours where WM dominates.

Yes, Trader Joes’s and Whole Foods!

Forget something new, I’m still waiting for Dunkin’ Donuts to finish being built down the road from FMU. Come on its been over a year.

That’s a long email to say “,+”.

15 Lynn July 30, 2009 at 6:07 pm

No surprise! We can’t even keep Atlanta Bread open.

16 Rebecca July 30, 2009 at 8:21 pm

Whole Foods and Publix would be AWESOME… maybe one day down the road!

That IS a shame. Publix subs ARE awesome!!! I used to eat them for lunch when I lived and worked in Charleston. Publix is a great grocery store chain. We need a nice new development behind Indigo Joe’s and Holiday Inn Express that is anchored by a grocery store. We also need a new development at the corner of Ebenezer and Pine Needles in the wooded area next to ESAB across from Ebenezer Baptist Church. Grocery stores wouldn’t work in both spots, but both are prime spots for development.
