Ice skating

I have an interesting paradox amongst my list of likes and dislikes. I love to ice skate but I hate to snow ski. Mainly, I have a strong aversion to snow, ski-lifts, crowds of people, and hurtling down a mountain at ninety miles per hour. Something about my body composition causes me to ski at an unnatural speed down the mountain. I can’t stop properly so I have to land flat on my backside. It is quite a sight, let me tell you. Granted, I only went once and I was fourteen years old. It was enough for a life time.

What I prefer is ice skating, rosy red cheeks, holding hands across the ice, the joy of learning how to skate backwards, watching children and adults laugh as they fall, and knowing hot chocolate is only a few steps away.

The Civic Center is fortunate to have ice this year and they have opened the rink to the public at certain times.

Tuesday there will be public ice skating from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Don’t you want to just stop the Christmas rush for a few minutes and build a special memory? I have happy memories of ice skating with Mr. Flossip. I have pictures of my parents ice skating when they were first married, I love the look of pure joy on their faces.

Seriously, get off the rollercoaster and go skating. I promise you will thank me. (Plus, if you have kids? I can’t imagine there are many kids that don’t need to blow off some steam right now.)
