Oh how I love Aldi! Interesting to me how so many people seem to turn their noses up at the place, when really it is a hidden gem! This past year I spent tons of time comparing prices and doing the coupon game. I can at times find things cheaper at Harris Teeter when they have triple coupons but otherwise Aldi beats it all. Hamburger for $1.79/lb and great prices on chicken. Their produce is amazing and they often have the cheapest price on milk, eggs, butter and cheese. Can't say enough good about the place. Some specialty products I have to go other places but for the most part I can find good quality products for my exact need at Aldi. They even have recently started carrying a European brand of facial cleansers and makeup that I love as well.

Oh they do the quarter thing here too? That's awesome. Yup, if your money is in it they are assured you'll bring back the cart, and they don't have to pay for someone to ring in the carts from all over the parking lot. In Europe they make you put in 1 Euro, which equates to roughly $1.50.

We do our weekly grocery shopping at Aldi. Yes, you have to put a quarter in the slot on the cart to use one (and take it back when you're done to get your quarter back). Yes, they do not have bags for free. But you can't beat their prices! Especially the fruits and vegitables, I got a whole bag of golden delicious apples there for $1.99 the other day, and I got a huge head of cabbage for $.99.

As for the bags thing, just take a handful of your reusable shopping bags. I have several from various shops around town, and we just take them in the store with us in the bottom of the shopping cart.

I remember how surprised I was to see an Aldi on this side of the Atlantic after I moved to Flotown. I never was a frequent visitor back in the day, and I have not yet seen our Aldi either.
Thanks for reminding me. I'll have a look at it soon :)

I LOVE Aldi's flowers...they are usually beautiful and such a bargain! I went in there a few days ago after a long time of not going and was reminded again how inexpensive things are. You can get almost any food item for under four dollars and usually less than that!
