Morning Coffee

I am enjoying my morning coffee and my newly-subscribed to actual paper. One made of actual paper. Novel concept! Here are a few teasers from this mornings “Morning News” …

  • All of the rain has caused flood warnings along the Pee Dee. While it has temporarily put a halt on farmer’s ability to work the fields– it will be a good thing as the water table increases. I am hoping for exceptional tomatoes this year. I already crave warm summer days, fresh sliced tomatoes with mozzarella… (Cover story)
  • The cover also has an article seeking opinions on a proposed curfew ordinance. Looks like they want a daytime curfew from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on a school day. Read the article for more details.
  • I see that Krispy Kreme is hiring a second shift person. All of you Dave Ramsey fans might be interested in that to help you get your $1,000.00 savings started.
  • There is also a lot of stuff about sports and politics, neither of which I care about. I can pass that section over to you.
  • Oh! I do care that the FMU Patriots will be playing UNC Pembroke today. Good luck!
  • Is there always a Food section? This alone is worth ordering the paper. I had no idea! When you only read the paper online, you don’t see everything like you do when it is spread out in front of you. I have always wondered about crawfish and may have to try this crawfish boil. Crawfish were on sale at Food Lion the other day.
  • Oh! There is a little article in here about flatbread sandwiches! I made these on Sunday to go along with some (Harris Teeter) clam chowder. They were really yummy. This recipe for Roasted Pepper and Spinach flatbread sandwiches sounds good.
  • My horoscope is a little on the lame side today. I was hoping it would promise riches and good fortune.
  • I always love to read Billy Graham’s column. Funny story– I once flew next to Franklin Graham’s assistant something or other and his wife. It was a lovely flight, his wife was SO nice. We chatted the entire trip. I no longer remember where I was going or why, but I remember almost everything we talked about. She got my address when we landed. I never expected anything, but she actually wrote me and sent me an article we had discussed on the plane.
  • Now that I have remembered that lovely memory, I feel good about the day ahead. Time to go to work Flo-town. Email me if you hear something interesting (or even not interesting.)

(Also– today is the day that Aldi gets new specials.)

The Food section always appears on Wednesdays along with the grocery store ads. My husband and I tried giving up the paper, but just liked that “feel” of newspaper in my hand. Didn’t like the online version

Warms my heart to read about people who still love the newspaper :) And yes, the Food section is awesome. Such beautiful photography!
