in Things to do in Florence, SC

It is finally starting to warm up! I actually was able to wear flip-flops most of the day yesterday. My southern blood needed some thawing out, so we spent most of the day outside. I can always tell when spring is in the air because the number of events start multiplying!

  • Tonight at Chili’s in Florence is “JDRF Give Back Night.” They will donate 10% of the proceeds for anyone dining there who mentions the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation from 5-9 PM. What a great excuse to go out to eat on a Monday night!
  • On Tuesday March 9, there will be a Celebrity Bar-b-q at Rogers BBQ on Second Loop. No, they won’t be cooking local celebrities although the local celebs will be serving the food that day! This is the annual Fundraiser BBQ to support Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs. Plates are $7 and include BBQ, red rice w/gravy, coleslaw, yams and bread. Homemade dessert $1 extra. No buffet, but you can take out or eat in! There are 3 locations:Roger’s BBQ (Florence) / School House BBQ (Scranton) / Johnsonville 1st Baptist Church. If you have ever wished for bbq on a Tuesday? Now is your chance!
  • Thursday March 11, 2010 will be Young Professionals March Happy Hour at The Fitness Forum. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. There will be complimentary spa demonstrations and tour facilities. Catering providing by Top Hat Speacial Teas, and of course, the incredible beer tastings by Crown Beverages. This month the grand prizes are a membership to the fitness forum and gift certificates for spa treatments. Please don’t miss out on this incredible event.
  • The South Carolina Dance Theater will be hosting “Dances, Dreams, and Music” on MArch 12 and 13. I will elaborate on that in a full post later today. Please support them and thank them for sponsoring the Flossip!
  • On Saturday St. Paul UMC will have a Children’s Garage Sale. You can’t buy children there, but you can get everything you might need to outfit one! Get there when they open at 7 am for the best deals!
  • There are two great events this weekend– and I can’t decide which one I want to go to. Tell you what– first person to email me free tickets wins the honor of my presence. (I kid, I kid. Kind of.)
  • First is the “Oink and Oysters” at Red Doe Plantation. I have actually NEVER been to Red Doe Plantation– not sure how that is even possible. This event sounds like SO much fun. All you can eat steamed oysters and bar-b-que with all the fixins! Live band! Candlelight tour of Red Doe! Proceeds go to help restore this historic treasure! You can get tickets from the Home Builders Assoc., their telephone number is 665-5885. Just contact Cheryl or Sabrina at the Home Builders, and they will be more than happy to help in any way!!!!
  • Also on Saturday night will be The Junior League of Florence’s ” The Lucky Shamrock Celebration“. The festivities will begin at 7:00 at the Florence Country Club. We will eat, drink and dance the night away with live entertainment by the Coppertones. All are encouraged to dress in your “luckiest” green attire. All proceeds from this event will help the Junior League of Florence further enrich community outreach projects. Tickets are $35, which includes everything.
