I had an email asking for thoughts on future plays for the Florence Little Theater.
Here are some parameters:
Send me a list of all the shows you would like to see performed on the FLT stage – musical, drama, comedy, dramedy…you name it. Your vote counts!
The shows that were suggested last year are part of the upcoming season – BIG RIVER, CROSSING DELANCY, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, MOON OVER BUFFALO and INTO THE WOODS were all shows that YOU suggested last year.
BUT…please do not send me a list of shows that do not exist in stage form. For example, THE BREAKFAST CLUB is only a movie. It is not a play…yet.
Also, please do not suggest shows such as WICKED, MAMMA MIA, STEELE MAGNOLIAS, LES MISERABLE and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA since the production rights for these shows are not available at this time.
Another thing to take into consideration is that if the show is on Broadway or touring currently the rights may not be available or the rights may be limited. I know that means very little to most of you but we cannot produce it if the legal rights are unavailable. You can go tohttp://www.mtishowspace.com/pg/show to check current availability.

I’ve been requesting this for years!

NICE I noticed Bugsy Malone is available…so amazing and deliciously un-p.c. for kids to perform in 2010! I loved that film.
On a serious note, I think Florentines would enjoy a hip musical like The Wedding Singer or Hairspray…or for kids Schoolhouse Rock Live is very fun!
Years ago, the Little Theater had “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”. It was great! I don’t know if any plays are ever “re-run”, but that is a fun, lively play.
Would love some diversity….A raisin in the sun, Dreamgirls…
I am moving to florence at the end of August. When do they audition for the shows? Would I be too late?
I know that a shorter version of Les Mis is available, they did it here in Boise about 4 years ago. Not sure if it’s a Les Mis “jr” or not.
Thanks!
Big River is the first show of the season and needs a fairly diverse cast to audition. Audition materials will be provided. Auditions are July 14 and July 18 at 7:30 at the Florence Little Theatre, 417 S. Dargan Street. The telephone number is 843-662-3731. Please call if you need additional information.
As to Les Miz it still isn’t fully available as a production. The 2010-2011 season is Big River in middle September, Crossing Delancey at the end of October, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at the beginning of December, Moon Over Buffalo at the end of February and Into the Woods in April. Again call FLT for production dates.
