Ragtime is coming to Florence Little Theatre

by The Flossip on August 28, 2012

in Things to do in Florence, SC

I am fascinated and intrigued by all of the updates I see about “Ragtime” at the Florence Little Theatre.  They are getting close to opening night, and it looks as if it is going to be amazing!  (Also, how is it almost September already!?)

From the Little Theatre website:

Directed by Shaw Thompson

Underwritten by Wells Fargo

Ragtime is not only a powerful portrait of life in turn-of-the-century America, but a relevant tale for today. The musical intertwines the stories of three extraordinary families, as they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America.

The Tony-winning score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty is just as diverse as the melting pot of America itself. It draws upon many musical styles from the ragtime rhythms of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley to the klezmer of the Lower East Side, from bold brass band marches to delicate waltzes, from up-tempo banjo tunes to period parlor songs and expansive anthems.

Last year, I bid (and won) season tickets to the FLT at the Merry Marketplace for the Junior League – Best money I ever spent!! LOVE the little theater and now with the new theater it is a really great experience! I encourage everyone to go out and see these wonderful, local events! They are well worth the money!

I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t been to FLT since they moved. This would be the perfect opportunity to go.

I’m excited for the new FLT season. We are season ticket holders for a while….since the theatre was on Cashua. It is always an enjoyable evening.

If you are planning to see three shows, buy a season ticket. It will save you money overall. Ragtime is truly an excellent musical with moving themes and concepts that will move you as well.
