I was reading a blog about leadership and came across this post. I think what she is describing is exactly what this site is about. I want people to embrace their lives here in Florence and realize that each one of us has the power to make this an excellent place to live. In order to do that, we have to be willing to step outside of the box.
Every week– try something different. A new restaurant? The Mechanicsville Fish camp for example? Rebel Pie Pizza is on my to do list. Perhaps pick a random event or adventure and go check it out. Find a charity to volunteer with. Do the heart walk! Go to the Pecan Festival! Go see Ragtime at the Florence Little Theatre! It only takes a small amount of time to step outside the box– you don’t even have to take big steps!
Have you done something different because you read it here? If so, please let me know in the comments– I love to hear these stories!

My husband, Vince, and I see under rumored openings the Grotto is listed. Yes, we have in fact opened as Grotto Fine Wine. We are a wine shop/bar. We are open Wednesday through Saturday from 2:30-7:30 p.m. We sell wine by the bottle, you can get a glass while you are shopping or do a tasting. We also have an awesome selection of cheeses for a cheese plate to eat while sipping on your wine! We also sell Vosges and Wild Ophelia chocolate and California and Italian olive oils. You can see pics of the inside on our Facebook page! Come by and see us!
You haven’t tried Rebel Pie yet? You are missing one of the best pizza places I have ever been to!!! Amazing.
Hi!
I am fairly new to reading the Flossip, but I am enjoying it, so far! Thanks to Smile Media’s Courtney Graham for telling me about it. One of your recent blogs ( I guess that’s what I should call it) caught my eye. You mentioned going to Tomlinson’s to get your son Guy Harvey shirts. That’s great, but I would just like to mention that my husband owns Salty’s Surf Shop and we sell Guy Harvey there, as well, and have them and all of our other brands of t-shirts on sale for buy-one-get-one-half-price. We carry infant to XXX-large and that is for clothing and shoes! Joe and I both are native Florentines and he has been in business here for nearly 30 years! We are so very thankful to our customers for shopping our store and we humbly invite all readers of the Flossip who aren’t familiar with our business to please stop in and check us out!
I love your blog, suggestions, contests and the rumors. I visit this site everyday to see what is new. Because of winning tix from you last year to the Florence Little Theater we are hooked! We have also gone 2 times last season to FMPAC and have both places all mapped out to get tickets as they become available! The Downtown Farmers Market is great and so relaxing..meeting local farmers and getting great products. All the new restaurants you post and you just have to try Rebel Pizza! It is wonderful and one of our favorites…local and family owned
Visited Wholly Smokin’ and it was really good and had to go next door to Sweets…I thought I died and went to heaven! Keep up the great job Ms Flossip! Its wonderful seeing all that’s going on around town and I step outta the box as much as possible!
Gotta say I loved trolling on that rumors, openings, and closings post when I lived in Florence. I visit often so I still check it out sometimes but not like I used to, haha. I checked it each week!
I visited several restaurants and local businesses after reading your blog… as well as going to a show at the FLT.
I couldn’t agree more! Honestly, I can’t name just ONE thing I’ve tried after reading your posts… I plan lots of weekends around The Flossip! Thanks for keeping us up to speed on all of the WONDERFUL things that Florence has to offer!!!
Ragtime – amazing! Will definitely check out all local FLT productions now.
Heart Ball – will be going again…such an amazing time
Heart Walk
Rebel Pie
Pecan Festival – I ran the half marathon one year – but will be doing a 10K I didn’t know existed until reading the post
Downtown Farmers Market
Tomlinson’s – had never been to the Florence location before
I tried Sweet for the first time after a post by you
& EVERYONE loves the Rumors, Openings and Closings – (at least I do)
Everything listed is something I would reccomend…and many things I did not know about until The Flossip pointed them out!
