FLORENCE,SC (eNewsletter) – The Dr. Eddie Floyd – Florence Tennis Center and the City of Florence will host the 2012 Florence Open $25k USTA Pro Circuit event October 20-28. We also need volunteers to help with this event. We will need people to drive players to and from hotels and the Florence airport as well as serve in various service capacities throughout the event. Contact Ernie James at president@TheFTA.com to let him know when you can help with this event.

Saturday, October 20th – Community Day
Time: 10am to 2pm
Event: Community Day
Description: This event will include tennis themed games and activities to introduce new players to tennis as well as allow veteran players a chance to test their skills with advanced stations. This is a free event for the whole community and will include complimentary food & beverages.

Sunday, October 21st – Coaching Development Day
Time: 10am
Event: 1st Round Qualifying matches begin (32 first round matches)
Description: 32 players will vie for 8 wildcard spots into the main draw of the Florence Open.

Time: 1pm to 3pm
Event: Community Coaches Workshop
Description: This workshop will be for community center employees, high school coaches, P.E. teachers, parents of tennis players, and anyone interested in coaching a Junior Team Tennis team. The event will conclude with a question and answer portion with USTA national coaches and professional players. Contact Ed Sprenger at tournament@TheFTA.com to sign up for this event.

Description: This event will allow up to 16 local players the opportunity to sign up and play in an exciting round robin. Each local amateur will be paired with a female professional player. Complimentary food and beverages provided for the players.

Tuesday, October 23rd – Family Night – Opening Ceremonies
Time: 10am
Event: Final round of qualifying matches
Description: The final eight matches will be played to determine the players that will move into the main draw.

Description: Party for players, sponsors, and local dignitaries.
