This post is actually LONG overdue– a thank you to the team of merry bandits that help keep the Flossip running. First of all there is Mr. Flossip. He puts up with a LOT, y’all. From my twittering and chattering about Florence non-stop… he deserves a medal. He patiently waits to update his facebook in case I scream “No! That is for Flossip!” He is also a hottie. Rowr.

Second, there is is my chief spy… we will call her Watson. Watson is the one that hops into the car with me at a moments notice to check out gossip, rumors, take pictures of places of interest and grab presents off Porter’s back door. She also constantly emails me with things to do. She gets no recognition for her loyalty, but I am eternally grateful.

Then to the small handful of friends that know that I am the Flossip… thank YOU. They listen to me vent and plot and plan. Since I don’t talk about this job to the world at large, it is nice to be able to talk to someone! (Yes, I mean you and you and YOU especially. Even you that isn’t sure if I know you know, but I do know that you know I know.) However, my favorite thing to do is tell someone I am the Flossip… it only happens once or twice a year, but their faces are generally priceless. (Yes, I am talking to you.)

Of course, thanks also to everyone that reads and comments and emails (and ESPECIALLY to those that advertise ). This has been a lot of fun and if it were not for you it would not happen. I appreciate it all very, very much.

Through this website I have come to love Florence again. I realize now that where you live is what you make of it. If you want to sit home and complain that there is nothing to do? Fine. Wallow in your self pity. Since this website started I have made more friends than I made my first year of college. I have tried new things, joined new groups, and I believe that I am a better person for it.

As you can tell, I have lots of links and lots of activities that I discuss. I have an entire links page that is full of Florence related links. You don’t have to do anything to be listed on the links page other than ask and I will go through a brief approval process. The links do not constitute any endorsement on the part of the Flossip.

You will notice that occasionally I will call something a “Flossip Flo-town Favorite.” Very few businesses or events hold the title of “Flossip Flo-town Favorites.” These are events and places that are high on my list of things that are absolute musts in my life. It means I consistently receive good service, that I think it is a benefit to the community at large, and I do actually shop there or attend the event.

You can’t buy a “Flossip Flo-town Favorite” seal of approval. While a business that has the seal can advertise, that is not a factor in my decision making at all. I will be displaying a new button soon with the Flossip Flo-town Favorite seal as well as a page that links to these special businesses. Stay tuned!

Elicia was right– theflossip.com started on May 3, 2006! To celebrate, there will be some fun contests coming up with gift certificates to local retailers! Now you know why I wanted to know your favorite places!

I get a lot of emails asking how you can be listed on this blog either on the calendar or in my directory of Florence links.

The first thing you need to do is email me. I will try to respond to your email, but it sometimes just doesn’t happen. This is a hobby for me and I have a job, a family, friends, etc. Second of all, I will try to post MOST Florence related events. I will not post any political events– Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or whatever party that Nader guy is. No offense to anyone, but the Flossip is a politics free zone, and I like it that way.
There may be other events I don’t post for whatever reason. There just isn’t a guarantee, and I am truly sorry. I love that you read and email me but I just can’t always get to every event. You may feel free to email me 10 times to get the point across, honestly. I am encouraging you to bug the snot out of me!

There is a way to get guaranteed coverage, and that is simple. You can buy an ad. Advertisers get a full month of a dedicated ad in the sidebar as well as occasional shout outs. The ads help keep this site running, so thank you to all of you that purchase ad space. (I hate to be such a sell out, but I have to be realistic!) The ads are very reasonably priced, feel free to email me if you are interested.

Mainly? I look for things that are different, interesting, inspired, challenging, fun. I want all of us (myself included) to see a side of Florence that isn’t always easy to see.

The Flossip likes to think of herself as invincible, with her superhero blue hat and glasses, but she is not.

She is tired and suffering from information overload. So, please excuse these few days of silence. Check out my great advertisers that help keep the site running.
