I think I may take my son to the Pee Dee Deer Classic. We are not a hunting family really, but it sounds like there are some things out there that he would have fun checking out. I know Mr. Flossip would enjoy it as well. Plus, its free for kids and it is inside. With Air Conditioning. Enough said. (I would probably go check out the wonderful world of knitting toilet seat covers if it meant I could stay inside today.)

I have had a few people ask me exactly what Florence after Five is. Florence after Five is held the last Friday of the month downtown (behind Harrington Vision Center and across from Central United Methodist Church). There are food vendors, a local band, and tons of Florentines enjoying the community and fellowship of one another.

Every time I go, I have a great time. It is family friendly and you will see kids delighting in being outside enjoying the music. (Really, could any kid NOT use more outdoor time?) The band this Friday will be the “Rick Strickland Band.” “Rick Strickland won a Songwriter of the Year award at the 2005 Carolina Beach Music Awards for the song Something Smooth which was #1 on the Beach Music charts the entire year of 2005. It was voted the #1 Beach Song of 2005 on a chart compiled by 30 different DJs’ top 100 Songs. It also ranked #8 on the top 50 Rhythm and Blues Dance Songs of 2005.”

What is the $100.00 Portrait Project you may be asking? There is an FAQ that answers all the questions that you may have. The short answer is that you pay $100.00 for the session and you will get to take home one digital image that is YOURS. In other words, you can reprint it for your friends and family, have an enormous portrait printed… it is yours. That is HUGE. Photographers guard their images closely– and with excellent reason.

• The person that I always went to for carpet and tile needs went out of business.  A year ago.  I’m sad that I can’t use him anymore, and sad I had no idea about him going out of business.
• Have you seen the new gym on Second Loop?  It is the “Ladies Only” portion of the Fitness World gym going in the old Winn Dixie on Irby.  I drove by it last night and WOW!  It was full of women running, walking, lifting, etc.  I was very impressed with their turn out, and I think they just opened.
• Aldi.  I love Aldi.  Have you ever shopped there?  Their store is fascinating to me, and it reminds me more of shopping in Europe.  You have to take your own bags.  You can’t get all of your shopping done there, though you can get a lot done.  I especially love their cheese selection.  For $2.99 you can get a nice romano or havarti cheese… something that would cost more than $4.99 at a regular grocery store.  I love to keep that type of cheese around for snacking while I cook dinner (on the rare occasion that I accomplish that.) You can also get fresh cut flowers for $3.99– and I need fresh cut flowers to bring me out of the winter doldrums.
• Don’t forget it is time to register for soccer with the County and the YMCA.  County registration ends the 15th and YMCA registration ends the 21st.  Baseball registration starts February 1.
• The YMCA Father-Daughter dance will be on February 27, 2010.  I Love this idea and will do a whole post on it closer to time.  For now, Tickets are available at the Florence Family YMCA for a minimum donation of $15.  All proceeds will benefit the Florence Family YMCA Partners with Youth and Families Program and the Morning News Newspaper in Education program.  Please remember, this is a special Father and Daughter evening, so no Moms allowed!  (Helicopter moms– this means you.)
