There should more plays with diversity. There are never any plays that have any major roles( more than ONE) for African-Americans, Hispanics, etc... The plays are always "lilly white". It may not be intentional , but after years of selecting plays that overlook the people of color in this county- it looks like blacks, Hispanics, etc ...are blocked out 0f the theatre through the plays that are chosen each year. Why call it the Florence Little Theater if it does not truly represent all the people of Florence? It was said that someone made the comment that people of color do not support the theater. What a surprise! Most years, the plays selected do not represent people of color well, or do not represenst them at all. This year's Big River is an example of that. This is another play inwhich Black people will play slaves or stand around being slaves in the background while white actors have the main roles.

The Sumter Little Theater has opened itself to diverse plays. Why is the FLT lagging behind? I thought that building a new theater would bring FLT into the 21st century, but it seems that only the building has moved into the new age. The mindset of those who choose plays, etc...still operate like those with mindsets of the 1950's old south.

Hey Flossip,

Another bit of good news may be on the horizon! Not really a secret but mainly just whispering...Burnadene Kelley of KFA has been asked to apply to be the "director" of the Miss South Carolina pageant. She has been all over town getting letters of support..if she gets it, she wants to bring the pageant to FLORENCE. It would bring LOTS of activity, people and spotlights on our wonderful city for two weeks at the end of June, beginning of July...Next year. What a wonderful way to open the season at the new Performing Arts Center! Keep your fingers crossed! Her application has to been in on Thursday, should hear somethiing soon as there will be a lot of planning for our great city. coleman

Craig,

YOu should not speak so matter of fact regarding things you do not know. Sonny is on a cane now during bad periods of time due to his back problem and had to travel to Holland to see his doctors there. He may later be facing serious back surgery. Right now they are putting it off.

I have also been very sick.

I think it is so sad that folks always assume the worst instead of thinking, "wow, I sure do hope they are not sick or something?"

When we get well again, we might move or maybe, we will do something else with our time and life. We were so happy in the restuarant business, but you know age will tell on you in time. :)

Actually, Old Europe was a great business and was sold six months ago. This business provided for our family well for five years. Thank you Florence. We sold this business due to my health and Sonny's health. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital just prior to us listing our business. They all did well.

Sonny's back is not good and due to these issues we decided to get out of business and take care of ourselves for a little while.

Sorry, to cause so much gossip but, I felt like everyone should know that wants to. We are keeping Roma Oven and would love to see you there. We are busy there so call ahead....
