Nucor & Vulcraft "Petal to the Metal" 5K Run/Walk! June 1, 8AM at Lee State Park in Bishopville!

Join us at scenic Lee State Park to celebrate National Trails Day at the first annual Petal to the Metal 5k run/walk sponsored by Nucor Steel-SC and Vulcraft-SC, both divisions of Nucor Corporation. This course is mostly flat with hard packed dirt and a little asphalt. Registration $20, and all proceeds benefit Lee State Park, our closest State Park.

Originally built in the 1930's, Lee State Park is a gateway to Lynches River, a designated state scenic river. The park encompasses 2,838 acres of diverse habitat that includes a vast hardwood floodplain forest, numerous artesian springs, a millpond and sand hills.

Nucor is the Nation's largest recycler and is committed to being cultural and
environmental stewards in the communities where we live and work. There will be food and drinks post-race and awards for all age groups. Bring the family and pets and enjoy a fun filled day!

Downtown is really starting to come along, I like the changes that are taking place. I envision a pharmacy like Walgreen's locating down there and the building that is on the corner of Irby and Evans across from the old post office being turned into apartment homes. I also envision a inter-modal transportation center being built there as well. I would love to know where the new medical school will be placed and I believe it's about time the new judicial center starts gaining some traction. I read in a local area paper that there are plans to put a clock tower downtown... apparently the individuals that want to do this wants it to be built out of steel. I believe it should be built of brick and steel that would be atheistically appealing. I like the new light that are going up downtown and the fact that its not the orange glowing kind but a clean bright white light. Downtown is going to be so different in the next few months and years, I'm glad that it's finally starting to take shape.
