Rumors, Openings, Movings, and Closings in Florence, SC
I am going to update this post as places open, places close and rumors bounce around and I will update when they become reality (if they become reality). By reality I don’t mean that your mama’s cousin works for the XYZ Company and they know for a FACT that it is a Buffalo Wild Wings. I mean, there is actually a sign on the door, wait staff is hired and I can go in and order a meal. Or buy something. Please comment about any rumors of new businesses you have heard or openings or closings. Don’t just comment about any rumors you have heard– this isn’t that type of website!
RUMORS AND PLANNED OPENINGS
- Cook Out– two rumored locations– Celebration and the old Fazolis
- Once Upon a Child (in progress!)
- Lizards Thicket – Confirmed that they are in talks to open at the old Carolina Wings
- Wholly smokin BBQ– Planned opening in the old Roberto’s location
- Hooters in the Old Prime Time Location — or will it be a Dave and Busters?

- Fuddruckers (I would actually love this, so easy with kids too.)
- Ulta- location is old Books a Million (Hearing there are construction delays)

MOVING
Florence Stride Rite is moving to 1988 W. Palmetto street beside Stuart Lawrence Salon and Quiznos on May 1st? We will have twice the space and will be bringing in the Hartstrings famous clothing line for children along with the Under Armor clothing line for little kids.

Is their any new restaraunts openings planned for Florence this year?
Chipotle is going up near the mall.
What is being built by the mall.
Ozzie’s on Palmetto has changed their name to Jersey Boys Pizza and OMG it is New York Style Pizza all the way! Their Italian menu is to die for. Every authentic Italian dish you can think of and they cater too. Try it once and you will be addicted. I know I am.
Pattycakes closed. I called them several times before they closed asking about either the clothes we consigned or the money from selling them and we never received a return call. Days later, I saw the store was empty. Anyone heard anything?
Yankee Candle is opening in the Florence Mall the first part of October. Staff is in training now!
@Jacque, the new store opening on Pamplico Hwy near Jimmy Johns will be a Sweet Frog Yogurt. I asked the guys working there today what was going in. They also said the Sweet Frog on McLeod should open by Labor Day.
Have you been in TJMaxx lately? There were empty shelves in the back and the more upscale clothing hasn’t been there in 2 seasons. I love this store, but it does not look good at all. Any word about what’s going on with them?
Is Roma Oven still open? Everytime I pass by they are closed. There is a new store opening on 960 Pamplico Hwy, (in the shopping center where the new Jimmy John’s is located) do you have any idea what that’s going to be?
I recently visited Salon Chique on S. Cashua…those girls are so genuine. I loved it. The atmosphere was so cozy and inviting and they made me feel like I was the only person that mattered during my service. All I can say is GREAT GREAT place to get heartfelt, quality service
It looks as if Yankee Candle is hiring managers for the Florence area. Hopefully this means another new business for Florence to support and help expand our growth.
Lizards Thicket was supposed to open by the end of June. I went by there last week. It appears they are behind schedule.
Is Ozzie’s Alamangia closed? I never see much business there and I saw a closed sign last week when it would have normally been open. I know they could be on vacation but I’m guessing it’s more likely they’ve closed up.
What about chubz? I saw it was closed.

There is a new tenant – Lola or Lula’s Coffee in the old Aroma Underground location off Pamplico Hwy (near Bi Lo). They open at 7:00 am Mon-Fri, 8:00 on Sat. Support the little guy!
Panera is looking a land in Florence; this came from the manager in Summerville
When people close stores, like Maria- please post a sign in your old building as to your new whereabouts! It’s taken me over a year to find out that A Taste of Spain is at the Farmer’s Market now!! Maria used to be on 2nd Loop Rd & the store is just “BARE” & sad…..there was absolutely no sign of her. REALLY GOOD FOOD & I will go to the Farmer’s Market now. Thank you!
Also, Roberto’s may be “closed for good” BUT ONLY AT THAT LOCATION. The owner “Max” has opened an outstanding, authentic, excellent…..I can go on & on……restaurant downtown- right across from the PAC & the site of the new MUSEUM. So please don’t post “closed” without a follow up note on where they’ve “re-opened”
Another example: Prime Rib closed “permanently” BUT….Victor’s owns it & is opening a place INSTEAD at the new HOTEL, which is also going behind the soon-to-be MUSEUM.
There, I’ve said about all I know is true.
SUGGESTION: This site is dated 2011 & in order to keep it “on track & current” how about posting NEW comments at the TOP, instead of at the bottom, where few people are going to have the patience to scroll down to see.
JP’s seafood & steakhouse closed, my parents’ old drugstore, Dixon Drug Co., Inc. on Dargan Street next to The Clay Pot Coffee House will be a bistro opening sometime in the next year or so by a great Florence caterer, Sweet Frog is definitely opening(my husband’s office got some quotes for it…great yogurt place!), and my cousin, Jay Phillips, owns a new Food Truck business open at The Pee Dee State Farmer’s Market, Bistro To Go, for a fresh homemade lunch daily! Check out A Taste of Spain at the Pee Dee Farmers Market on Saturdays – thw owner, Maria Blanco, is from Spain and she is so nice and cooks the most delicious Spanish foods like tapas and desserts – she has homemade bread, coconut macaroons, etc. So worth the trip!!!! Lizards thicket is confirmed it it going in the old Carolina Wings Location-my employer Jordan & Sons Plumbing Co. has started our portion of the remodel as of yesterday.
